Bryony Young

Psychologist - MSc Applied Forensic Psychology, BSc (Honours) Psychology

Background

Bryony has worked with children, adolescents and adults since commencing her post-graduate psychology training in the UK in 2007, before moving to Australia in 2010. She uses an attachment-based and humanistic perspective in her work, and has a particular interest in assisting individuals across the lifespan in making sense of earlier confusing, difficult, and traumatic experiences. She has worked with Indigenous and non-indigenous children and adults with complex needs in both correctional and community settings.

Bryony has completed accredited training in Schema Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)Therapy. Bryony has completed an advanced clinical training program in Child Centred Play Therapy (CCPT) and Interplay training with Play Therapy Australia, and training with the Queensland Institute of Play Therapy (QIPT). She is an Associate Member of the Australian Play Therapists Association (APTA).

Bryony enjoys working with parents, carers, teachers, and other significant others in children’s lives, to bring about positive change for children, and understands that healing can occur at a deeper level when it takes place in a close therapeutic relationship. As well as drawing on her knowledge and training as a psychologist, Bryony also brings her experience as a mother of two children into her work. The parenting journey comes with ups and downs,  and we often put pressure on ourselves to be a perfect parent (which doesn’t exist!). Bryony feels great reward in supporting parents through the challenging times, and in helping parents to feel more connected to their little ones.
